Imagine if John Lennon’s vision came true…
In 1971 John Lennon released a a piece of music that embodied not only john’s hope but the hope of the world that people could come together regardless of colour, faith, gender or disability and could live in harmony. Unfortunately John never saw his vision of peace in his lifetime as 40 years ago he was cruelly gunned down by a schizophrenic gunman by the name of Mark Chapman. The record I refer to is called “Imagine” and it still stands the test of time as being one of the most poetic attempts to bring unity to the world. So why do I refer to this song, well to put it bluntly I am fed up with people’s attitudes to our fellow man (and before I am criticised for discriminating against other genders, I use man generically to cover all gender). Over the last few weeks the world has been gripped by the outbreak of a new virus called Corona-virus, sadly this virus has its origins in Wuhan,China, and because of this, the ignorant minority have decided to take their paranoia and fears out on innocent Chinese residents who try and live peacefully in our community.
Now come on people lets get a grip, we all live on a planet where we co-habit with germs and viruses and every so often one of these viruses will mutate in to a new strain unknown to science and therefore with undetermined symptoms. Sadly Corona-Virus has been over inflated by the mass media and has a created a global paranoia never seen before. The Corona-Virus outbreak should not be an excuse for executing violence on a Chinese person just because of the country where they were born, but instead to be warning to us humans to keep our personal hygiene in check.
If take the following steps, we should keep Corona- Virus from spreading needlessly.
- When we sneeze or cough, put our hand over our mouths and sanitise our hands after.
- If you travel by train or bus and are forced to stand and use a hand rail, just make sure you clean your hands with a sanitising gel.
- Avoid having paranoid thoughts, just because the mass media wants you to. Otherwise this paranoia will cause another pandemic in mental health.
Its just simple manners that will suffice and bring this paranoia to a close.
As a fitting finale, take a time to listen to “Imagine” and think about the harm that hatred has done to this world, and let us try and eradicate this pandemic.
